Wedding pocket square - we analyze different options (photos + sets)
The wedding pocket square is the element that is the dot over the "i" of the entire groom outfit for the wedding. As a rule, it is supposed to relate to the shirt. Therefore, if the shirt for the wedding is white (and in most cases it is, and in our opinion it should be), then the only right choice is linen white pocket square.
White linen pocket square for wedding
There is no better idea if you want to bet on the pragmatic approach, that is, to buy a suit and accessories that we can use for a lifetime (and not just on the wedding day). If the pragmatic or classical approach is close to you, then go for it:
- navy blue suit,
- white shirt,
- burgundy, navy blue or grey tie (here we wrote jak choose a tie for the groom),
- linen white pocket square (a white pocket square with a tie-colored edge is also an interesting option).
What kind of pocket square for a navy blue suit?
We assume you need a pocket square for a navy blue suit because you are going for a wedding classic. (Later we will talk about pocket square less classic)We mentioned a white pocket square, which with the edge will relate to the color of the tie. See below how it works:
White linen pocket square with burgundy edge to burgundy tie

Advantages of a white pocket square for a wedding
- will work in almost any styling - so it will be useful for future celebrations, business meetings and other occasions,
- will perfectly break the navy blue stain on the chest (if you have a navy blue suit).
What kind of pocket square for the wedding, if you choose a patterned tie?
Consistency is important:If you choose an unconventional tie and suit, the pocket square should also be unconventional. We do not extinguish the original styling, with a classic white pocket square. Combining a white pocket square with a patterned tie will not necessarily look good. Therefore, create a great set of accessories by choosing a pocket square that relates to the shirt and tie (and choose a tie in reference to the color of the suit).Put simply - each styling element must relate to some other element.
White background pochette
A white background or larger elements of white on a pocket square will look very good with wedding styling. Consistency is achieved by making the white parts of the pocket square lowcase relate to the white shirt.
An example of a good connection
Let's say you choose a trend-compatible suit in a muted green color. For this, a white shirt, a pocket square with elements of green and white (we suggest a different shade of green than the suit) and a tie, for example, yellow or with elements referring to the pocket square (below tie - elements of white and green in other shades):
Here we do not worry about the fact that the pocket square does not obviously refer to a tie, because the pocket square relates to the shirt.
Example - giving up a patterned tie
Nevertheless, we recommend you go with a more standard tie, such as. grenadine tie burgundy, gray, and even yellow or purple. With a pocket square, however, we can go a little crazy, but do not choose one that does not have a white element.
In the example above, the pocket square refers both to the shirt and the yellow elements to the yellow grenadine tie.
This option is also great:
White dots for white shirt, navy blue for suit, pocket square and for tie and shirt.

Rules for combining colors to create a great look
It is worth learning about the so-called color wheel, which makes it easier to combine colors in styling.
The following color combination rules work great:
- adjacent colors - a combination of colors that lie next to each other on the color wheel, for example, purple and blue,
- contrasting colors - the juxtaposition of opposing colors on the wheel, for example, green and red,
- monochromatic - the juxtaposition of the same color in different shades,
- split complementary - a combination of colors that form the letter T on the circle, for example, purple + turquoise + orange,
- double complementary - juxtaposition of 4 colors (opposite pairs of colors),
- color triads - a combination of 3 colors evenly spaced in relation to each other on the color wheel, for example, every 3rd hue - purple, orange, yellow.
Black, white and gray combine easily with any other color.
Is there a universal wedding pocket square?
An example of a versatile pocket square might be the one pictured to the right. It consists of the colors white, blue and red. So it will fit for the wedding, if the whole styling appears either white, or blue, or red (and usually a piece of wedding attire has just about any of these colors).
How to fold a pocket square for wedding?
At the outset, we mentioned that in our opinion the best solution is a TV fold, if we're talking about a linen pocket square. If you choose a pocket square other than linen, it is best to fold it into what is called a "PUFF".
A pocket square for a wedding - summary
If you are going classic, choose linen plain or with a border that refers to the color of the tie. If unconventionality is your middle name, consider the principle of matching pillowcases with other elements of the outfit in terms of color (contrast or adjacent colors).
